Pre-K 4
Students practiced identifying letters in a sensory bin of recycled papers. At the end of the week they recycled the paper into seed paper. Adding water, pulp was created and flower seeds were added. The mixture was pressed into cookie cutter molds and left to dry. The seed paper was planted at home and in the school garden.

Grade 1

Grade 2
During remote learning in the Spring of 2020, 2nd grade students took a virtual field trip to the Maui Gold Pineapple Farm. Students received their own pineapple. They learned planting and harvesting techniques from plantation workers. The learned about animals such as wild boars that feed on the pineapples and how the volcano ash helps to nourish the soil. They were guided through the processing factory and learned (with the help of their parents) how to cut and taste the juicy pineapple. Finally, they replanted their pineapples and watching them grow.

Grade 3
Students learn about animal habitats and recycled materials. As part of a STEM activity, they build a new habitat for their groundhog, following the guidelines, using recycled materials.
Grade 4
During remote learning, students viewed a video and discussed energy conservation at home. They created posters to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of energy use.

Grade 5
Students are visited by a guest speaker, our very own Mr. Schilling, who shares his whale watching experiences. Students examine the migration patterns of various species of whales along with the effects on their environments by humans.

Grade 6
Save the Penguins
Students use their STEAM skills to design eco-shelters to keep penguins cool in times of global warming. Students build models of their shelters and tested them with "penguin ice cubes." |
Grade 7
Students created mini ecosystems. They tested abiotic and biotic factors on invertebrates. After collecting data and analyzing their findings, the 7th graders shared the information with their 2nd grade prayer partners.

Art
Students in grades Pre-k-8 were encouraged to create land art inspired by the artist, Andy Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy is a well-known land artist who is inspired by all aspects of the natural world, including snowflakes, twigs, icicles, reeds, tree roots and rocks. He always photographs his artwork once it is complete because the pieces naturally change over time. Our students were instructed to choose things in nature to create art in a manner that would honor what the Earth has given us.
