Saint John the Evangelist Top Five Accomplishments

Educational Trails
Two educational trails were cleared on the 17 acres of land acquired in 2016.  The property includes forest, water, and bog areas.  The first trail was completed in 2018 with the help of the Maryland Conservation Corps and parent volunteers. It includes signage and 2 separate gathering areas for instruction. The second trail was completed by Trail Conservancy, Inc. in 2021 and will include a platform along the water’s edge to allow for water study.

Bird Club & Bird Blind

In 2019, the Saint John the Evangelist Bird Club was formed for students in grades 5-8 to study  birds and their habitats. In 2020, a bird blind was added within our forest area, built from recycled fencing. This allows for bird observation.

Energy Efficient Lighting

In 2018, 496 lighting fixtures in the auditorium, hallways and 30 classrooms were replaced with energy efficient LED lights.

PAC

In 2018, the Parish Activities Center was completed. This energy efficient structure includes a full-size gymnasium and gathering space. New green spaces surround the building.

Digital Classroom Materials

In 2019, science textbooks were replaced with digital Discovery Education Techbooks in grades 3-8. New Energy Star Certified Interactive  Smartboards were added to 10 classrooms. Beginning in 2017 students and teachers in grades 5-8 have migrated to digital notebooks.
